GOUT
Gout is a health condition common in middle aged men. It is associated with high uric acid levels within the body. Uric Acid is the final breakdown product of your metabolism and if it is not breaking down enough, or if there is too much acid being produced, then these high levels will form small needle like crystals that travel to body joints, causing inflammation.
Some of the risk factors of gout include high level of alcohol intake, obesity, genetic inclination and rich foods such as meat, liver, and cream filled dishes.
The symptoms of gout, not unlike arthritis, can onset suddenly to include harsh pain, swelling and redness in the extremities, especially the big toe, possibly knee or ankle, wrist or fingers. The condition of acute gout is also labelled gout attacks which can last anywhere from five to ten days or even longer. If untreated, gout can lead to kidney stones, kidney damage and lasting joint damage.

According to certain sources there are four stages of gout:
(1)Symptomatic Gout – Uric acid levels are high in the blood but there is no treatment needed. An awareness at this point is a good time to take a closer look and possibly make some lifestyle/dietary changes to avoid it getting worse.
(2)Acute Gout, otherwise known as (Hyperuricemia). With this stage, inflammation and pain are symptoms experienced and the gout attacks may lessen in a shorter period of time.
(3)Interval Gout – At this point, you have periods where there is no gout and then recurring gout.
(4)Chronic Tophaceous Gout – This is the most severe and immobilizing stage of gout. This stage dosen’t just happen overnight, it will transpire after many years and at this point can affect certain joints and possible damage to the kidneys.
