Women can get gout which is a very painful type of inflammatory arthritis. Women are more likely to get gout after menopause. Men however, who drink gallons of alcohol or who eat very rich foods, are targets for gout.
Gout has been around for centuries, even Benjamin Franklin had it back in his hey day. Old fashioned beliefs around gout stem from old day tradition which is partly true that gout is the result of a gluttonous or excessive lifestyle; in other words too much rich food along with loads of alcohol, creamy foods, rich gravies etc.
